Papers, 1796-1945.

Six generations of family papers. Many of the earlier materials are letters from relatives in Texas, New York, Illinois, and Iowa discussing family business and crops. Also contained are real estate papers, including indentures and deeds for land in Scott County; recipes for making dye and home medicines; items reflecting the impact of the New Deal on farmers; and the 1933 bankruptcy of the Fletcher American National Bank in Indianapolis. Printed materials include agricultural ads and operating manuals for farm machinery; penmanship copybooks; and 1902 Scott County assessment lists.

The Jennings family were early settlers of Scott County, Ind. Ozias Jennings came to Kentucky from Connecticut about 1800; his brother Aaron lived in Scott County, Ind. from 1820 until his death in 1834. Aaron's sons George W. and Levi lived in Lexington, Ind.; Levi later moved to New York. Three more generations continued to live in Lexington: William L. (fl. 1877-1924); James H.
